Natural Whole Body Cleanse

28 January 2008

The most natural and safest methods to a whole body cleanse.

The first question to ask yourself would be why are you considering a whole body cleanse? Figure out what your motivation is: Are you wanting to drop extra pounds, do you feel overly tired and sluggish, or have you just heard that it’s a cool thing to do?  First of all, if you are pregnant or nursing check with your Doctor before doing any type of cleanse, detoxifying the system will impact your child’s milk.

If this is your first cleanse, the best solution may be to start with a very gentle cleanse. The best time to start is the weekend, or close to, as you may find that you are more tired than usual or don’t feel 100% as the toxins start to leave your body. This is quite normal and to be expected.

To start the process, begin by eliminating all foods that are high in unsaturated fats, refined sugars, and white flour products.  Your goal should be to continue this after you finish the cleanse, these products only serve to clog up and slow our bodies down.  Remember, the more of these types of foods that you eat, the harder the body has to work to get rid of them for you.

Next choose only the best organic (if possible) fruits and vegetables and eat them raw, juices or smoothies can be a great way to get plenty of fruits and vegetables, or you can try salads and use both along with or as an accompaniment to entrees.  Try to stock up a couple of days in advance so you have items on hand to keep you motivated and to keep the juices and fresh produce interesting. Do not buy too far in advance however, as the best time to eat these products is when they are as fresh as possible.  The high fiber content in these organic vegetables and fruits, as well as that of legumes such as chick peas, aduki beans, and lentils, will naturally detoxify the colon.

Unsweetened cranberry juice diluted with water will serve as a kidney cleanse and fat flush but go lightly with these drinks.  Do not buy cranberry juice from concentrate at the supermarket as it can be high in sugar; the best solution is to juice your own, or alternatively find the cranberry powder that is widely available at health food stores. Start with one 8 oz. glass per day.

You can use whole grain breads sparingly but remember they can be higher in calories.

To get your energy boost choose nuts and seeds, the energy comes from the fats - but don’t over do it, one handful at a time is more than enough.

A small frequent meal with hard cheeses and water has been known to be helpful.

It is very important to keep moving, it can be something as simple as walking, exercising or doing yoga.  If this is your first cleanse start slowly, don’t stay on the cleanse for too long and remember always consult your Chiropractor for the best ways to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
