D-Mannose a natural solution to Urinary Tract Infections.
8 September 2008Being plagued by UTI’s is no fun, mine will come whenever or wherever they feel like it, there is no rhyme or reason. It could be lunchtime or the middle of the night, and none of the standard medical causes hold true. It seems I am just prone to urinary tract infections. So when I read about a new natural supplement called D-Mannose I got excited. I am Bactrim resistant and allergic to penicillin, so my only course of antibiotics was Ciprofloxacin , which in itself is scary to have to take on a regular basis.
I recently read about D-Mannose in a magazine and immediately got online to order some. At the Healing Therapies website I discovered, “In the general population, about 90% of UTIs are caused by E. coli bacteria, which although a normal part of our intestinal miroflora, do not belong in our urinary system. In the case of SCD, a diversity of bacteria in addition to E. Coli can cause UTIs. In spite of their clear importance, every time you use antibiotics you short-circuit your body’s inherent healing potential, cumulatively compromising your long-term health. You may be winning the immediate health-care battle, but you are setting yourself up to lose the war.”
D-mannose: Studies suggest that D-mannose is 10 times more effective than cranberries in dislodging E. coli bacteria from the bladder wall, and, as such, can ameliorate more than 90% of UTIs in 24-48 hours. In addition to reading many impressive testimonials from able-bodied consumers whose recurring UTI’s have been successfully treated with the product…”
I have tried the cranberry approach, I actually made my UTI’s worse drinking cranberry juice, my ignorance had sent me to the local grocery store to purchase cranberry juice off the shelf, big mistake. The sugar in these juices is so high it actually helps feed the bad bacteria causing the UTI to get worse. Once I found out that the sugar in cranberry juices was a no-no, I then also tried taking the cranberry pills and capsules, all to no avail.
According to Mercola you may have heard that cranberry juice can be helpful, but I do not advise drinking it. The juice has far too much sugar in it, and like all fruit juices, it’s high in fructose. However, I do very highly recommend the active ingredient found in cranberries called “mannose,” which has been shown to be remarkably helpful in supporting a healthy urinary tract*. Mercola also goes on to say, instead of an antibiotic or drug D-Mannose is a nutritional supplement that occurs naturally in cranberries, peaches, apples, and other berries. D-Mannose is a rare saccharide found in some plant and food substances – and we even produce it in our own bodies. Best of all apparently there are no side effects that anyone has found as yet, and in addition to supporting a healthy urinary tract, it is 10- 50 times stronger than cranberry! It produces rapid action while promoting friendly bacteria. Unlike antibiotics, this is safe for long term use. D-Mannose also creates no disruption or imbalance in normal body microflora.
To see the chemical compound and make-up of D-Mannose go to Wikipedia.
To see exactly how D-Mannose gets rid of that UTI in such a rapid way, check out Discover Nutrition, (how it works): This new product that these (UTI) bacteria are highly attracted to will kill bad bacteria fast. In fact they would rather bind to this substance than the lining of the urinary tract. When the proper dose is taken the bacteria promptly detach from the urinary tract lining and bind to this substance. Now the freely floating bacteria attached to this substance is then eliminated upon urination flushing the infection away.
I am excited, I have longed for a solution to this annoying problem, just as many women I know have. After all, who wants to take antibiotics on and off, year after year? Plus just getting to the urgent care or doctor when a UTI hits is hard enough, add in the wait at the pharmacy which is just as excruciating, who wouldn’t love a natural, over-the-counter supplement that could resolve this without going through all that? Watch this space!
